When Enzo Catellani began creating new lighting fixtures using the first LED
circuits, the intention was to create simple, discreet, almost invisible objects, that
put emphasis on the light. This is how he moved away from a rather ‘aggressive’
style towards simple minimalism.

A member of the KTribe family of products, this inspiring pendant light provides diffused light through a transparent diffuser that gracefully moves the eye upward. The inner diffuser is PC (polycarbonate) with a white opal finish. The outer diffuser is fumèe PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) with silver on the inner surface applied by vacuum aluminum coating. There is a single support cable and a white ceiling rose.
Inspiration behind the design: Designer Philippe Starck is known for an ability to create objects that “demand the most from the least,” and the KTribe family of products is no exception to that rule. Streamlined and smart, it pushes boundaries while reflecting his focus on positive reduction and environmental consciousness.

“I wanted to recreate one of the simplest, cleanest shapes: the circle.
I tried, making a lamp that was minimally ‘intrusive’. When I switched it on, its name came to me immediately: Sorry Giotto”.

Part of the Tatou family, Tatou S is an exceptional style gets its name from the French for “armadillo,” a tribute to the unassuming animal whose brilliant structure keeps it protected and makes it unique. Like the other pieces in this collection, designer Patricia Urquiola conceptualized this pendant lamp to play on the filtration of light, with remarkable results.
The Tatou suspension lamp offers diffused light and has an exterior diffuser in PC (polycarbonate). Its internal diffuser is injection-printed opal PC. The socket accommodates either a compact fluorescent or a halogen lamp bulb.
Inspiration behind the design: “The process began by looking for different ways to reconstruct membranes, conceived like Japanese armor: a series of metal buckles cleverly united by tapes with a powerful emotional value,” explains designer Patricia Urquiola. “The word ‘tatou’ has an emotional sound to it, which I think is consistent with the emotional function of this object.”

Its name invokes the iconic toy best played in a park, but this light is seriously smart. Offering three types of illumination—diffused, direct, and reflected—the FRISBI doubles down designed Achille Castiglioni’s ability to play with the power of illusion. Three barely-there, fine steel cables suspend the opal acrylic diffuser, making it appear as it if it is floating. A black metal stem and wire mesh basket assembly secure the reflector to its 16″ power cord.
